The goose seemed especially wonderful because the family were excited about their special Christmas meal, and it was a large, delicious-looking bird.
Mrs Cratchit prepares the goose and serves the meal. Belinda helps her, and the young Cratchits set the table.
It tells us that the goose was carried ceremoniously and proudly to the table, as if it were very important.
The two young Cratchits beat on the table with the handles of their knives. They are excited and eager for the meal to begin.
She is worried that the pudding may not be ready or may not turn out well, and she wants it to be a success for the family’s Christmas meal.
