1. Now that I’ve been staying in a British family in Brighton for a week, let me tell you something about English food traditions today. First of all, breakfast in Britain doesn’t look like breakfast my mother cooks. Breakfast here is very light, they eat cornflakes or cereal with milk, some toasts with jam and a cup of coffee. Lunch in Britain is even more specific than our four-course meal we usually eat in Russia. There is no soup, no fish or meat with a side dish. I usually have a box with a packed lunch. There are a couple of ham and cheese sandwiches, an apple or banana, some biscuits and a drink in it. Many local people prefer to have a lunch like this one. The only home-cooked meal is a dinner. I like British dinner best of all. They usually serve green salad, roast chicken or beef and a very tasty dessert. All the members of my host family prefer eating ice cream. But I like a home-made pastry called “sundries”. I’d like to know the recipe and make it when I‘m back home. I think my parents will be proud of my cooking talents.
