Past Simple.

Last weekend we went to Edinburgh by train from London. We stayed at a hotel. It was cold and windy when we arrived in Scotland, but the hotel was warm and comfortable. On Sunday morning we got up at 8 o’clock and had a good breakfast. We walked around the city and looked at the lovely shops. We visited Edinburgh Castle in the afternoon and enjoyed sitting in the gardens. We did not go out in the evening; we stayed in the hotel and talked to some people from America.

В отрицании используется did not + начальная форма go.
