4. Dialogue in Direct Speech

1. The teacher asked me if I was tired.
   Teacher: "Are you tired?"
2. I told her that I was, because I'd watched a late film the night before. I asked her why she had asked that.
   Emma: "I was, because I'd watched a late film the night before."
   Emma: "Why did you ask that?"
3. She said that I looked pale. She asked me why I had watched until so late. She said that I shouldn't watch late films on school nights.
   Teacher: "You look pale. Why did you watch until so late? You shouldn't watch late films on school nights."
4. I told her that she was right, but I'd needed to watch that film. I had had to write a review of it for my English teacher.
   Emma: "You are right, but I needed to watch that film. I had to write a review of it for my English teacher."
5. She said she understood, but next time I should record it. Then I could watch it earlier in the day.
   Teacher: "I understand, but next time you should record it. Then you could watch it earlier in the day."
6. I told her that next time, I would record it.
   Emma: "Next time, I will record it."
