When I think of a ghost town, I imagine empty streets, abandoned buildings and silence. Chernobyl became deserted after the nuclear power plant accident in 1986, when radioactive contamination forced people to leave the area. The monument is dedicated to the firefighters and other emergency workers who died or suffered while dealing with the disaster.
