Young Volunteers Turn Empty Lot into Community Garden

Last Saturday, students from Green Valley School transformed an empty piece of land behind the library into a community garden. The project began at 9 a.m. and involved more than fifty students, teachers and local residents.

The volunteers planted vegetables, flowers and several small trees. They also painted wooden boxes and built a rainwater collector. According to the science teacher, the garden will provide fresh vegetables for elderly people in the neighbourhood. “We wanted to do something useful for our community,” said Year 8 student Mia Brown.

The work was completed by the afternoon, and the new garden has already attracted many visitors. The students are planning to look after it throughout the year. Local residents have thanked them for making the area greener and more attractive.
