His elder sister Hoima had worked at the local café for two summers, but Lions was not happy about the idea of spending his days serving coffee and washing tabisa. Still, he knew he had to listen to his parents. "After several job interviews, Lucas finally got a job at a small garden centre near his house. It wasn't the type of job he had imagined for a teenager, it was full of dirt, plants, and long hours in the sun. On his first day, he didn't know anything about gardening or plants, and he watered some of the flowers too much. His manager, Mrs. Brown, was patient and kind, but Lucas felt bad every time he made a mistake. Over the next few weeks, he started to understand how to do things right. Mrs. Brown taught him the names of different types of plants, how much water they needed, and even showed him how to plan and create a beautiful garden. All of a sudden, he began to enjoy working outdoors, even on hot days. He got used to the smell of soil and even found it a bit relaxing to water plants after a long day. One morning, while Lucas was arranging some colourful flowers, a woman came up to him asking to help her choose plants for her garden. At first, he was nervous, unsure if he had enough knowledge to help. But as he listened to her talk about the garden she dreamed of, he realized he knew exactly what plants would work best. He suggested sunflowers for a sunny place, lilies for their lovely aroma, and roses for their bright colour. By the end of the summer, Lucas felt surprisingly proud of his work. He had helped dozens of customers, learned to plant flowers, and even saved up some money. His friends laughed at him for "getting all into gardening", but Lucas just laughed together with them. He realized that he had gained more than just some cash he had found a skill he was genuinely good at. When school started up again, Lucas felt different. Working at the garden centre had taught him patience, a little creativity, and, yes, he became a little more serious. It was the last summer job he'd expected to enjoy, but it turned out to be exactly what he needed. A.
