Countable nouns:

  • a lot of (affirmative) - There are a lot of bananas in the fridge.
  • many (negative) - We haven't got many apples.
  • a few (affirmative) - Let's buy a few peppers.
  • some (requests) - Can I have some crisps?
  • any (negative, requests) - There aren't any apples. Is there any milk?

Uncountable nouns:

  • some (affirmative) - We've got some juice.
  • much (negative) - We haven't got much sugar.
  • a little (affirmative) - I'll have a little cream with my cake.
  • any (requests) - Is there any milk?
