Black cabs
London's iconic black cabs are a symbol of London. The story of black cabs
goes back to the 17th century. In 1625 the services began with horse-drawn vehicles.
These carriages were private means of transport. But in the 1850s there appeared
open two-wheeled carts on the streets of London – they were called cabriolets.
In fact, the first motor cabs appeared on the streets of London in 1903. Today
the black cab has become a cultural icon. It has appeared in countless films, books,
and artworks, symbolizing London itself. Traditionally the car has a partition inside to
separate a driver from passengers.
Drivers of London cabs are always specially trained. They must know all the
city streets and pass the test to get the license. In the future this famous taxi will
probably become electric taxis due to modern technologies.
