Hi Mary,
Thank you for your email and for sharing your traditions with me! It's fascinating to hear about your customs.
In Russia, we also have many traditions. One of the most well-known is celebrating Maslenitsa, or Pancake Week, before Lent. During this week, we eat lots of pancakes (blini) and enjoy various festivities, such as sledding and burning an effigy of winter.
Another important tradition is celebrating Victory Day on May 9th. We honor veterans and remember those who lost their lives during World War II with parades, concerts, and fireworks.
For New Year's, we decorate a fir tree and exchange gifts, similar to Christmas in other countries. It's a time for family gatherings and festive meals.
I hope this gives you a glimpse into some of our Russian traditions. I'm glad to share them with you!
Best wishes,
Sasha
