Dear Duncan,

It was great to get your email! It's interesting to hear your thoughts on learning foreign languages.

I believe it is definitely necessary to speak a foreign language. It opens up so many opportunities for communication and understanding different cultures. Plus, it's a great exercise for the brain!

In Russia, most students start learning English at school around the age of 7 or 8, in the second grade. Outside the classroom, I try to improve my English by watching movies and TV shows in English, reading English books and articles, and chatting with native speakers online.

I hope this answers your questions. Write back soon!

Best wishes,
