We use the past continuous to say that someone was in the middle of
doing something at a certain time: (Мы используем Past Continuous, чтобы

(They started at 6 pm and finished at 8.30 pm. So, at 7 pm they were

We use the past simple and the past continuous to say that something
happened in the middle of another event: (Мы используем Past Simple и
