Thomas Alva Edison was born in February 11, 1847, in the USA, State Ohio. His formal schooling was limited to three months, as he was considered a slow learner, but his mother taught him at home, transforming him into an avid reader.

By the age of 12 (1859), Edison had become a trainboy on the Great Trunk Railroad, selling magazines and candy. Later, at the age of 15 (1862), he became a manager of a telegraph office and a receiver of the automatic telegraph.

In 1878, he began work on electric light and founded the Edison Electric Light Company. His most significant achievements and inventions, which are beneficial to the human society, include:

• Electric light (a lamp that glows for 40 hours, demonstrated in 1879).
