My name is Gabriela. My brother Jamie has got learning difficulties, and he has faced many challenges.

One of my greatest achievements is helping Jamie make friends. He can’t speak clearly, and because of this it’s sometimes difficult for him to make new friends. At first, he became angry when I tried to help him. However, after a lot of effort, I’ve managed to bring a group of friends into Jamie’s life.

How did I manage it? First of all, I asked our parents to get Jamie a drum. He has always loved music, so he loved the drum! One day, I invited some musician friends to our house. They introduced themselves to Jamie and then just played some music. Soon Jamie started to play with them. Two of these friends have now formed a band, and Jamie is their drummer.

If you want to help someone make friends, my advice to you is to find something they love doing and help them meet people with the same interest. And never give up!
