a) Retelling the story as James's mother:
My son, James, is thirty-four now, and I really think it's time he settled down and got married. He spends so much time living with his cousin in that little house, making hats, of all things! He's a nice boy, but he doesn't make much money doing that. And his ideas about tea! All those little tea questions and theories, and heaven forbid you should mention cream! Honestly, sometimes I worry about him. He can go on for an hour without saying a word about food. At least he seems to enjoy his tea; he always says it's excellent. Oh, well, maybe this new idea he has will lead to something good.
b) Retelling the story as Rhoda:
James is quite a character. He's always got some new idea brewing, especially when it comes to tea. He hates those little tea questions, though! We live together in this little house with one of his cousins, where we make hats. I wish he'd realize it’s time for him to get married. He doesn't make much money, but he's a nice person. Sometimes he can be a bit quiet about food, but he always enjoys a cup of tea. He had a brilliant idea recently!
