“I was making dinner one night when I noticed my dogs waiting at the door. Usually that means they want to be let out, but that night they were acting differently, they seemed nervous. I went to the door and looked outside. A huge black bear was standing there, holding a bag of marshmallows. He was only a few feet away, calmly watching us through the glass.”

Обоснование: Длительный фон — was making, необычное поведение в тот момент — were acting, положение медведя — was standing. Past Simple.
