Russia is the largest country in the world. It extends to the Pacific Ocean in the east, the Arctic Ocean in the north and the Caucasus Mountains and the Black Sea in the south. We know that the territory behind the Ural Mountains is Siberia and the territory near the Pacific Ocean is the Far East. It takes more than ten hours to get from the east to the west of the country by plane.

Russia is rich in seas, lakes, rivers and forests. Lake Baikal in Siberia is famous because it is the deepest lake in the world and it has very clear fresh water. Some of our rivers are very long and powerful.

The climate is different in different places: the north is famous for its ice, snow and low temperatures but in the south the weather is warm in winter and hot in summer.

There are many important cities on the territory of Russia. Tourists from abroad come to visit Moscow, the capital of the country. Visitors come to do St Petersburg, famous for its beauty. In Russia, there are thousands of cities and towns, large and small, old and new and every city or town is interesting in its way.
