Reported Speech - Statements (Said)
When reporting what someone said in the past, we usually change the tense of the verb to the past. This is called backshifting.
- Grandma said that she was 70 years old.
- My aunt said that she could play the guitar.
- Dad said that he had to clean the garage.
- My friends said that they were going to the cinema.
- John said that he didn't understand the question.
- Mike and Bob said that their room was messy.
- Grandpa said that he always watched the news in the evening.
- Ella said that it was going to rain.
- Gordon said that he was making lamb chops for dinner.
- Melanie said that she would take the dog for a walk.
- The teachers said that school was almost over.
- Dylan said that he couldn't find his glasses.
